Tesla Summer Update Reaches FSD Vehicles in Europe

Tesla has begun expanding its 2026 Summer Update to Full Self Driving vehicles in Europe. The update brings more owners access to navigation improvements, expanded vehicle controls, entertainment features and a more personalized driving experience.

For current owners, this is another good reason to keep their Tesla connected to WiFi. For anyone considering a used Tesla, it also shows why the computer, software version and included packages can be just as important as the mileage, color and wheels.

Why the European Rollout Is Getting Attention

Tesla normally releases software gradually. Not every vehicle receives the same update on the same day.

Availability can depend on the model, country, infotainment processor, Autopilot computer and Full Self Driving status.

Some European Teslas equipped with Full Self Driving had remained on a separate software path while Tesla continued adapting its driver assistance technology to European roads and regulations.

The latest rollout begins bringing more of those vehicles onto Tesla’s newer Summer Update software.

This does not mean every Tesla in Europe will immediately receive every feature. Tesla uses gradual software releases so it can monitor performance before expanding an update to more vehicles.

Tesla also explains that updates cannot be manually sent to an individual vehicle upon request. Owners should keep their vehicles connected to a stable WiFi network and watch the touchscreen or Tesla app for an update notification.

Preferred Routes Make Navigation More Personal

Tesla navigation can now place greater priority on routes the driver has previously used.

That can be helpful when the route you prefer is not necessarily the route navigation would normally select.

Atlanta drivers understand this better than most. The mathematically fastest route is not always the road a local driver wants to take during morning or afternoon traffic.

By recognizing previously driven routes, Tesla navigation can become more familiar with the owner’s habits and preferences.

Smarter Automatic Navigation

Tesla’s automatic navigation can suggest destinations based on saved locations, calendar appointments and regular routines.

The Summer Update expands this ability by recognizing places an owner visits frequently. The vehicle may suggest navigation to a school, gym or other regular destination without requiring the driver to search for it every time.

For a parent handling school drop off before work or someone who visits the same gym on the way home, this can make the vehicle feel more personal and intuitive.

Expanded Grok Vehicle Commands

Compatible Teslas equipped with the AMD Ryzen infotainment processor may receive expanded Grok functionality.

Grok can assist with certain vehicle functions, including navigation, climate settings, phone calls, music and areas of the settings menu.

Hardware matters here. Older Teslas with an Intel infotainment processor may not support all the same Grok functions available in newer AMD Ryzen vehicles.

New Traction Control Options

Select newer Tesla models receive additional traction control settings for different driving conditions.

Depending on the vehicle, drivers may see settings intended for normal driving, slippery roads or situations where the vehicle becomes stuck in mud, sand or snow.

Georgia drivers may not encounter snow every day, but improved controls for heavy rain, wet roads and loose surfaces can still be useful.

Caraoke Becomes More Interactive

Tesla has also refreshed its Caraoke experience on compatible vehicles.

The updated version can include live scoring, pitch indicators, note streaks and accuracy tracking. It turns Tesla’s in car karaoke system into more of an interactive game for passengers while the vehicle is parked.

This feature may not change the way the car drives, but it is a great example of how Tesla continues making ownership more entertaining through software.

Better Battery Range Estimates

Select Model 3 and Model Y configurations may receive updated estimated range calculations that consider more information about battery age.

This does not mean the update changes the battery’s physical capacity. It means the software may provide a better informed estimate based on the battery’s condition and age.

Drivers should remember that displayed range can also change with temperature, speed, elevation, climate use and driving style.

What Does This Mean for Tesla Owners in America?

The European rollout does not necessarily introduce a completely new collection of features for American Tesla owners.

Some features may already be available in the United States. Others may arrive on different schedules depending on the model, hardware and software path.

The larger story is that Tesla continues improving its vehicles through software.

A traditional vehicle usually has the same basic features years after it leaves the factory. A Tesla can receive meaningful changes and improvements long after it was originally sold.

That is one reason a carefully selected used Tesla can still feel modern even when it is several years old.

Why Tesla Hardware Matters When Buying Used

Not every Tesla supports every software feature.

Before purchasing a used Tesla, buyers should consider more than the model year. Important differences can include the Autopilot computer, infotainment processor, camera system, Full Self Driving status and whether certain upgrades are permanently included or available only through a subscription.

A Tesla equipped with the AMD Ryzen processor may support features that an older Intel equipped vehicle cannot.

A Tesla with Hardware 4 may have different cameras and potential capabilities than a similar vehicle equipped with Hardware 3.

Full Self Driving also needs to be verified carefully. The phrase “FSD capable” does not necessarily mean the vehicle includes the paid Full Self Driving package.

How to Check for Tesla Software Updates

Tesla owners can check for an update by opening Controls and selecting Software on the vehicle’s touchscreen.

The Tesla app will also display a notification when an update is available.

Owners can choose between Standard and Advanced software update preferences. Selecting Advanced tells Tesla that you would like to receive updates as soon as they become available for your particular vehicle and region.

Updates still arrive gradually. Another Tesla receiving newer software does not necessarily mean anything is wrong with your vehicle.

Keeping your Tesla connected to strong WiFi is the best way to make sure it is ready when an update becomes available.
